I make a lot of waffles in my house. When I get the energy to meal prep, they are on the agenda. They are quick to make and freeze well. They save the argument in the grocery store of my children begging for frozen waffles and me (most often) saying no. I choose my battles when I have to.
Food and Nutrition Magazine is one of my favorites. It’s a publication of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In my humble opinion, it’s one of the best. They have a partnership with Siggi’s Dairy right now and I may also add that Siggi’s is also one of the best.
Siggi’s has put out the challenge to create recipes using their no added sugar yogurts and I love a good recipe development challenge. I knew exactly what I was going to make when I heard about the challenge – my waffles. I take my basic recipe and revamp it all different ways. This was one more challenge – I LOVE the way these waffles taste.
I don’t add any sugar to these waffles. I know that waffles are usually slathered in syrup and when there’s sugar on top, there no need to have sugar in the waffle. Sugar is definitely on my watch list. I have been watching my added sugar for years now. I’ve completely changed the way I eat just by reducing the amount of added sugar in my diet.
For this recipe, I used Siggi’s 0% no sugar added plain yogurt. That adds a ton of protein. I could call these protein waffles with the yogurt and the eggs – they will keep you going. I also love the entire 1/2 cup of cocoa powder – a powerful and yet underrated antioxidant.

- 1, 5 ounce container Siggi's 0% yogurt
- 1.5 cups 2% milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1.5 cups all purpose flour
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon table salt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- Preheat waffle iron
- In a mixing bowl, add yogurt, milk, and eggs - mix together
- In a small bowl, mix together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt
- Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until combined
- Stir in melted butter
- Cook according to your waffle maker instructions
- Top with desired toppings
